Meet the miller and grind your own flour
Members of the public are invited to meet the medieval miller, learn a bit about medieval milling and what it was like to be a miller. They can touch and see the different grains and flours, including wheat, rye, oats, barley, peas and millet (pea bread is a wonderful green colour!).
Visitors are invited to have a go at milling their own bread on the rotary hand quern which is a wonderful way to demonstrate to children where flour comes from. This display is extremely popular with children, many of whom go away wanting to be millers! It's actually very satisfying grinding your own flour.
If requested we can provide small bags or sacks for visitors to take a sample of their flour home.
