Discovering Medieval News and events for 2007

Discovering Medieval have been working as historical consultants and as characters on Hodder and Murrays new CD on the history of medicine, due to be published in the early autumn. The CD is written by Ian Dawson and produced in conjunction with the schools history project who produce the wonderful book 'Medicine and Health through Time. Wel will appear as a medieval physician and surgeon and Karen as a wise woman with Ian Dawson as the patient.


April 2007

6-9 April - Discovering Medieval will be appearing at the Hop Farm over the 4 days of Easter, giving displays on armour, food & cooking, surgery & medicine and toys & games. The displays are very interactive and hands on so if you've ever fancied trying on armour or finding out what toys medieval children had to play with come along and see us there.

 

May 2007

We will be appearing again at the Royal Gunpowder Mills for their annual multi-period event on 27 & 28 May.

June 2007

We will be giving displays for schools on medieval life at Bodiam Castle for 10 days during June. If you would like to book a visit to see Discovering Medieval as part of your visit to Bodiam, please contact the castle directly.

23 June - Come along and join us at Oxford Castle and play some medieval toys and games.

July 2007

We're be appearing at the Schools History Project Teachers Conference again in July, where we'll be promoting the new Hodder & Murray Medicine through Time CD. It's a great weekend with lots of ideas to help teachers create fun and memorable lessons for students.

August 2007

4 & 5 August - Battle Abbey - 'Boot Camp'. We'll be letting the public try on our armour (Kid and adult sized!) and learn about medieval toys and games as part of this EH event.

8 August - Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire - Try on medieval armour, hold a sword, play medieval toys and games or try out our medieval stocks and pillories.

11 & 12 August - Festival of History, Kelmarsh Hall - English Heritages annual multi-period extravaganza. This year apparently featuring an 18thC street and a Mr Darcy wet shirt competition in amongst the usual high quality re-enactment and entertainments.

16 August - Discovering Medieval will be interviewed on BBC Radio Norfolk sometime between 11.20am and 12.00pm on 16 August 2007 about what we do. Have a listen and find out what DM is all about.

18 & 19 August - We're back at Bodiam Castle giving displays on medieval cooking and milling. Come have a go at making butter in the churn or grinding flour on the quern.

25-27 August - Dover Castle - 'Worst days out in history' Come and learn about crime and punishment in medieval times, meet the bloodsucking leeches and the horrors of medieval surgery.

September 2007

8 & 9 September - Houghton Regis Medieval Fayre - Try on medieval armour, hold a sword, learn about medieval food by making butter in the churn or grinding flour on the quern, try on medieval clothes.

The new Hodder Murrary CD, written by Ian Dawson and starring us as physician, surgeon and wise woman will be launched in September time.
